Three Court Cases and their Impact on Early Civil Rights. The role of civil rights within the United States has been changed greatly over the past two hundred years, and arguably the most significant period of the definition of civil rights in a legal sense occurred following the Civil War through the earliest period of the Twentieth Century. During this period, the rights of those considered to be of minority status were significantly redefined in the eyes of the law. This paper addresses three specific cases in order to define and describe the extent of civil right legislation during this time period and the environment in which these decisions were formed.
