She loved animals, developed actively in the arts, struggled with spelling and mathematics, and waited on marriage until she was 26. Her life was one of mingling with the aristocracy of England, of near divorce, widowhood, and, finally, the creation of the Girl Scouts of America. Hers was a significant achievement and a significant life that has helped shape the lives and futures of millions of girls.
