Analysis of 60 Minutes Segment: America's Arabs . This essay will argue that the segment is, in general, more critical of the Arab American community than of American law enforcement or political authority. As will be seen, much of the information content is delivered to the viewer in subtle ways, such as by using images to challenge or contradict the spoken content of the interview segments. It will be argued that the message presented by this mingling of word and image is a troubling one: on the one hand we see officials suggesting that racial profiling is now an acceptable practice in American law enforcement, while on the other we see a community that appears - at least from the segment - to be ambivalent and equivocal in its identity as American. 8 pgs.
