Case Study on Educational Evaluation
The case study explored an ethical dilemma an external evaluator faced as he was hired to evaluate a new mentoring program. The program, Bright Futures, sought to help at risk 7th graders by instituting a mentoring program where they would be paired, for a two year period, with high school juniors. The evaluation was to be over a six-year period to monitor the lasting effects, if any. At the programs first year anniversary, the OSP Director had the good fortune to attract the potential interest of a philanthropist who now wants to see the benefits of the program. The OSP Director has instructed the evaluator to produce a positive report on the effects of the program, despite the fact that it is much too early.
